Film, TV and photo locations
Balancing interiors
Bring bright windows down so interior lighting and exposure work together.
Changing daylight
Add or remove layers as the light outside changes through the day.
Studios with windows
Control natural light in photo and film studios without permanent tint.
What it is — and what it isn’t
Use it for
- Glass or plastic windows
- Temporary installs on location or in studios
- Stacking for more density
- Re-using across projects
Don’t use it for
- Total blackout — use E276 Blackout
- Permanent window tinting
- Dirty, wet or textured glass
- Colour correction — it’s neutral density
Installing WindowCling (per Rosco)
- Clean the glass with a non-streak glass and plastic cleaner and dry it thoroughly.
- Buff the glass with a clean, dry microfibre towel to help build static.
- Starting at an upper corner, place the film and line it up along the frame.
- Trim the excess using the frame as a guide; smooth air out towards the edges (squeegee if needed).
- Stack further layers the same way. To remove, peel from a top corner and re-roll onto a core without creasing.

Common questions
How does WindowCling stick without adhesive?
It holds to the glass by static electricity. A clean, buffed, dry window and low humidity help it cling.
How many stops does ND9 cut?
3 stops — Rosco lists transmission at 15%.
Can I stack WindowCling?
Yes. Rosco says layers can be stacked up to 8 stops before any noticeable colour shift.
How long will it stay up?
Approximately 4–6 weeks, depending on environmental conditions.
What if it won’t cling?
Re-clean and buff the glass. Rosco’s alternative is to apply with soapy water and a squeegee.
Specifications are from Rosco WindowCling technical data. How long WindowCling holds depends on temperature, humidity and how clean the glass is — test a section on the actual window before the job. Figures and advice on this page are a guide only.
