Supersaturated Scenic Paint — Flexible Colour for Drops & Glazes (AU & NZ)
Rosco Supersaturated scenic paint · AU & NZ
Painting a drop, scrim or translucent wash?
Supersaturated is the pigment-heavy, flexible scenic paint drop and scenic artists reach for — single-source artist pigments that stretch a long way, stay flexible on fabric, and glaze from opaque right down to a whisper. One gallon does the work of two, colours mix true and read cleanly under stage light, and it won't crack when the drop is folded and rolled. Here's how to use it, and the full palette to add to cart.

What it's best at
Concentrated colour that stretches & stays flexible
Drops, scrims & fabric
A flexible binder that survives repeated folding and rolling — the choice for backdrops, scrims and painted soft goods.
Translucent glazes & washes
Thin it right down for luminous, translucent glaze effects and subtle shade-and-shadow work.
Reads true under stage light
Pure single-source pigments respond predictably to lighting and gels, so designers can shift mood without muddy colour.

Why the pigment matters
Artist pigments, not liquid dispersions
Supersaturated is made with single-source, artist-grade dry pigments — usually one or two pure pigments per colour, not a muddy mix. That's why mixing behaves like an artist's palette (Rosco Red + Rosco Blue makes a clean purple, not mud) and why it holds up under coloured light. The heavy pigment load is also why you can extend it so far with water: one gallon genuinely does the work of two.
- Single-source artist pigments — clean, predictable mixing
- Heavy pigment load — extend one gallon to two
- Flexible binder resists cracking on fabric
- Pure colour that reads true under stage lighting
How to dilute it
From opaque to a 15:1 glaze
Supersaturated flexes from a solid coat to a translucent glaze just by adding water. Around 4-parts water to 1-part paint gives you an opaque, brushable coat; push it to 10:1 or 15:1 water and you get a translucent glaze for shade, shadow and atmospheric depth on drops and scrims. Add Clear Acrylic Glaze into the mix for extra adhesion and body when you're working very thin.
- 4:1 water for an opaque, brushable coat
- 10:1–15:1 water for translucent glazes & washes
- Layer glazes to build shade, shadow and depth
- Add Clear Acrylic Glaze binder when working very thin
- Test translucency on a sample of your actual fabric first
