Gobo Fixture Compatibility, Gobo Size and Artwork Guide

Choosing the correct gobo size is critical for clean projection, sharp focus and safe operation of your lighting fixture. This page is a practical gobo size chart for lighting designers, theatres, venues, hire companies and AV technicians across Australia & New Zealand.

Use this guide to match your fixture (for example, ETC Source Four, Selecon Pacific, Chauvet Intimidator Spot 475ZX, Chauvet Gobo Zoom 2, Ljusdesign Neo Framer, Showtec Performer Profile 150 Q6, Robe ColourSpot, Martin MAC, etc.) to the correct gobo diameter and image area, and then order a Rosco custom gobo cut precisely to size from Creative Film & Theatre Solutions (CFATS).

Order custom gobos for any fixture

CFATS supplies Rosco steel and glass custom gobos to fit virtually any spotlight, moving head or gobo projector. As the exclusive Rosco agent for Australia & New Zealand, we can match almost any gobo holder or wheel.

Artwork Guideline

Artwork File Formats

To achieve the sharpest projection, vector artwork is best.

Preferred formats

  • AI, EPS, PDF (vector)

Also accepted

  • PSD, TIFF, PNG, JPG (high-resolution only — suitable for full-colour or photographic gobos)

If you only have a basic logo or an unusual file type, just send it through — we’ll review it and advise the best way to proceed.

Artwork Resolution & Size

The required quality depends on the gobo type:

Metal Gobos

  • Minimum: 150 dpi
  • Recommended size: 700 × 700 px or larger

Glass Gobos

  • Minimum: 300 dpi for clean, sharp projection

Vector Files

  • No resolution requirements — they scale cleanly at any size

Tip: Higher quality artwork always produces a sharper projection.

How to use this gobo size chart

  1. Find your fixture brand and model. Scroll to the brand section (for example, Chauvet, ETC, Selecon, Martin, Robe, Showtec, Neo Framer) and locate your specific model.
  2. Note the outside diameter and image area. The Outside Diameter is the physical size of the gobo blank (glass or steel). The Max Image Area is the largest usable image that will project cleanly.
  3. Choose material: Rosco steel or glass gobo. Use steel gobos for simple breakups and patterns; use glass gobos for logos, multi-colour artwork, gradients or photographic detail.
  4. Order your Rosco custom gobo from CFATS. Once you know the size, you can order directly online at cfats.com.au – Rosco Custom Gobo or email sales@cfats.com.au with your artwork and fixture details.

This guide focuses on the most common fixtures we see in Australia & New Zealand. There are many more legacy and niche fixtures on the market; if yours isn’t listed, CFATS can still supply the correct Rosco custom gobo once we confirm your exact size.

Quick recap: from size chart to finished gobo

  • 1. Find your fixture brand and model. Scroll to the brand section and locate your specific model to get the correct outside diameter and image area.
  • 2. Confirm the dimensions. Double-check against your fixture manual if you are unsure, or send CFATS a photo of the gobo holder.
  • 3. Choose Rosco steel or glass. Steel for simple patterns and breakups; glass for logos, gradients, fine detail and full-colour artwork.
  • 4. Order through CFATS. Use our Rosco Custom Gobo product page or email us your artwork and fixture details – we’ll handle the rest.

Need a custom size or help with a fixture not listed?

Even if your projector or moving head isn’t listed here, CFATS can usually supply a matching Rosco custom gobo – cut to any diameter, in steel or glass, for almost any gobo holder or wheel. If you’re in doubt:

  • Send us the fixture make & model (e.g. “Chauvet Intimidator Spot 475ZX”, “Showtec Performer Profile Zoom 150 Q6”).
  • Attach a photo of the gobo holder or your existing gobo (if you have one).
  • Tell us whether you prefer steel or glass, and if it’s for a logo, pattern or full-colour artwork.

We’ll confirm the size and send you a quote for a Rosco custom gobo that will fit your light and your application.
