What it does

Fast ND for small, flat sources

Instead of hand-cutting small ND pieces from full sheets and taping them on, RoscoGrip sticks directly to virtually any flat lighting surface and removes easily when you’re done.

  • Reduces output by 2 stops (24.4%)
  • Medium-tack, repositionable adhesive
  • Sticks to flat lighting surfaces
  • Trims neatly to shape
  • Removes easily after the job
  • Consistent result across many practicals
Where it’s used

Night driving scenes

Control headlight output so the shot holds without blowing out.

Branded backgrounds

Take the edge off signage in retail and commercial shoots.

Right job, wrong job

What it is — and what it isn’t

Use it for

  • Clean, flat, non-dimmable light sources
  • Vehicle, signage and dashboard lights
  • Quick resets between set-ups
  • Matching several practicals

Don’t use it for

  • Curved or textured surfaces where it won’t sit flat
  • Surfaces that could be marked by adhesive — test first
  • Application outside 5–25°C
  • Large windows — use WindowCling
How to use

Getting the best result

  1. Test on the exact surface first to make sure the adhesive won’t affect it.
  2. Clean and dry the surface; apply between 5°C and 25°C.
  3. Peel and stick the strip onto the light source.
  4. Trim neatly to the shape of the source.
  5. Reposition if needed; peel off when the job is done.

FAQs

Common questions

What is RoscoGrip used for?

Dimming non-dimmable light sources on set — headlights, emergency vehicle lights, LED signage, dashboards and practicals.

How much does it reduce light?

It’s an N.6 ND: 24.4% transmission, about a 2-stop loss.

Will it leave residue or damage the surface?

Rosco says the adhesive should be safe on most surfaces but it’s up to the user to test first. Always test on the actual surface.

Can I reposition it?

Yes — the medium-tack adhesive is repositionable during setup.

RoscoGrip vs WindowCling?

RoscoGrip is for small, flat light sources. WindowCling is a static-cling ND film for windows.

Specifications are from Rosco. Always test RoscoGrip on the actual surface first — Rosco leaves it to the user to confirm the adhesive won’t affect the surface — and check the result on camera. Figures and advice on this page are a guide only.
