Top FAQs: Ordering Custom Rosco Gobos Through CFATS
Ordering custom gobos can feel technical, but at Creative Film & Theatre Solutions (CFATS) we make it straightforward. As the exclusive Rosco agent for Australia and New Zealand, we work with Rosco every day and can help you with artwork, sizing, materials, proofs and all the technical details so you get the right result the first time.
1. How do I order a custom Rosco gobo through CFATS?
Just reach out to us. You can use the Custom Gobo product page, call 02 9906 6262, or email sales@cfats.com.au.
Send us your artwork and the lighting fixture details (make/model or exact gobo size). If you know the quantity or material, include that too. We’ll quote it, send proofs, and organise production and delivery.
Example: A wedding planner once sent us a hand-drawn sketch. We cleaned it up, matched it to their fixture, and delivered a colour glass gobo in time for the event. They didn’t need to know anything technical.
2. What artwork file formats do you accept?
Vector files are ideal — AI, EPS or PDF provide the sharpest lines.
We also accept high-resolution PSD, TIFF, PNG or JPG for full-colour or photographic gobos.
If you only have a basic logo or unusual file type, send it through and we will guide you.
3. What resolution and size should my artwork be?
- Metal gobos: At least 150 dpi, ideally ~700 × 700 px or larger.
- Glass gobos: At least 300 dpi for sharp projection.
- Vector files: No resolution required — they scale cleanly.
Example: A theatre once supplied a blurry screenshot. We contacted their designer and obtained a vector file, preventing a fuzzy, weak projection on stage.
4. Can CFATS produce gobos for any lighting fixture?
Yes — Rosco can manufacture gobos for virtually any fixture worldwide. Just tell us your fixture’s make and model or provide the exact gobo size, and we’ll take care of the rest.
5. What information should I include when ordering?
Please send:
- Your artwork
- Fixture make/model
- Gobo diameter and image area (if known)
- Front or rear projection
- Quantity
- Your deadline or show date
6. What materials can custom gobos be made from?
Rosco offers four main options, each suited to different applications:
- Stainless Steel — For bold, simple shapes and high-heat fixtures.
- Aluminium — Used in some specialised applications.
- Black & White Glass — Excellent for fine detail and sharp contrast.
- Full Colour Glass — Best for logos, gradients and photographic content.
Example: A brewery used full-colour glass gobos for a product launch to match their label artwork. This level of colour accuracy isn’t possible with metal gobos.
7. How long does production and shipping take?
Lead times depend on artwork, material and quantity. If you have a firm deadline, tell us upfront — we’ll advise realistic options and do what we can to meet it.
8. Will I see a proof before my gobo is made?
Yes. You receive two original proofs and one amended proof if changes are needed. Additional revisions can be provided for a small fee. Approving proofs promptly helps keep things moving.
9. Can CFATS help adjust or clean up my artwork?
Yes — Rosco’s artwork team can refine designs, fix line weights for metal gobos, and prepare files for full-colour glass production. Send us what you have and we’ll guide you.
10. Can I reorder the same gobo or get it in another size?
Yes. We can remake your gobo in the same size or produce the design in a different size. Additional sizes or modifications may incur a small fee.
11. Do you offer keystone correction, and what is it?
Yes. Keystone correction adjusts your artwork to counteract projection angle distortion. Without it, angled fixtures can make the image appear stretched or skewed.
Example: A museum projected a logo onto the floor from a wall-mounted fixture. Keystone correction ensured the final projection appeared perfectly square.
