Test Rosco’s specialised camera white before painting your complete studio.
Rosco TV White is a super-matte studio and cyclorama paint formulated to provide a clean, controllable white background under production lighting and on camera.
This sample lets you test the paint’s colour, finish, adhesion and camera performance on your own surface before purchasing a full-size container.
What You Receive
This sample has been decanted by Creative Film & Theatre Solutions from genuine Rosco TV White stock.
It is intended for testing and product evaluation before committing to a larger studio, cyclorama, photography wall or production-space project.
The sample container differs from Rosco’s original retail packaging. Colour and technical performance are derived from genuine Rosco TV White.
Important: TV White Looks Light Grey
Rosco formulates TV White to provide approximately 60% reflectance, which Rosco identifies as the maximum brightness for video white balancing.
When you open the sample, it may look pale grey or neutral in the container. It may also look less bright than ordinary white paint when viewed under normal room lighting.
This does not mean that the paint is faulty, incorrectly mixed or the wrong colour. The neutral appearance is part of its intended formulation.

TV White or Bright White Paint?
Choose Rosco TV White When:
- The background will be filmed or photographed
- You need controlled reflectance
- You want a super-matte finish
- You need smooth cyc lighting or gradients
- Camera performance is more important than visual brightness
Choose a Brighter Scenic White When:
- The surface must look bright white to the eye
- It is scenery rather than a camera background
- Controlled video reflectance is not required
- The area is viewed mainly under normal room lighting
- A neutral-grey appearance would not suit the brief
How to Test Your Sample Properly
Use the same substrate, repairs and primer system planned for the finished studio or cyclorama.
Make sure it is clean, dry, smooth and free from dirt, grease, dust and loose material.
Stir until the colour and consistency are uniform. Do not shake the container.
Use a good-quality brush or roller and maintain a consistent technique across the test area.
Do not judge the final colour or surface while the coating is still wet.
A second coat may be necessary to achieve consistent colour and hide, particularly over uneven or contrasting base colours.
Illuminate the sample with the type, angle, intensity and colour temperature planned for production.
Check exposure, white balance, reflections, hotspots, roller texture and surface uniformity.
Surface Preparation
A smooth and consistently prepared base is essential. Cyclorama lighting can reveal repairs, roller marks, joins and differences in surface texture that may not be obvious under ordinary room lighting.
Porous surfaces
Rosco recommends priming porous surfaces, except fabrics, with Rosco Tough Prime.
Tough Prime White can create a more consistent base colour and reduce uneven absorption beneath TV White.
New plaster
New raw plaster should first receive an appropriate commercial primer or sealer intended for new plaster.
Rosco Tough Prime may then be used as the final preparation coat before TV White.
Previously painted surfaces
Remove loose or poorly bonded paint. Clean the surface thoroughly and sand glossy areas where necessary to provide suitable tooth.
Remove all sanding dust before applying primer or TV White.
Repairs and patched areas
Repair holes, cracks, joints and surface damage using materials appropriate for the substrate.
Sand repaired areas smooth and prime them consistently. Differences in porosity or texture may show through under studio lighting.
Application
Brush
Use a good-quality brush, overlapping strokes and a wet edge to apply thin, uniform coats.
Roller
Apply evenly with a good-quality roller. Change direction regularly to help reduce patterns and streaks.
Spray
TV White may be sprayed using suitable equipment, ventilation and precautions. Read the current SDS before spraying.
Recommended application approach
Apply TV White in thin, even and uniform coats. Maintain a wet edge and overlap each pass.
Avoid trying to achieve complete hide with one heavy application. Allow the first coat to dry before deciding whether another coat is required.
Use the same equipment, roller type, technique and application direction across the complete cyclorama wherever possible.
Can TV White be diluted?
Use TV White straight from the container where possible.
Rosco permits dilution with up to approximately 10% clean water where adjustment is necessary for application.
Excessive dilution may reduce hiding power and increase the number of coats required. Test any adjustment before applying it to the complete project.
Application temperature
Do not apply when the surface or air temperature is below 10°C.
Temperature, humidity, airflow, surface porosity and coating thickness will affect drying and recoating times.

Clean-Up & Storage
Clean application equipment promptly
Clean suitable brushes, rollers, spray equipment and tools with soap and water before the paint dries.
Storing the sample
Close the sample container securely and store it upright in a cool, suitable location away from children.
Protect the paint from freezing.
As the product has been decanted from Rosco’s original container, the sample is intended primarily for evaluation rather than long-term storage.
Important Information
Read Before Use
- TV White intentionally appears light neutral grey.
- Do not judge its camera performance by looking into the container.
- Apply it to a prepared surface and allow it to dry before evaluation.
- Test it under the intended lighting and through the intended camera.
- Do not mix ordinary white paint into TV White to brighten it.
- Do not apply below 10°C surface or air temperature.
- Protect the product from freezing.
- Use adequate ventilation.
- Avoid prolonged skin contact.
- Avoid breathing spray mist or sanding dust.
- Keep out of reach of children.
